I want to extend a HUGE welcome to you from Suck a Little Less! Thanks for checking out the site.
Suck a Little Less is all about making ourselves a little better as people, so we can lead a more enjoyable and fulfilled life.
Many of us go on through life based on what we learned growing up, and if you’re like me, there may not have been the best of examples.
So we go on by what we know, not always realizing that we can learn the things our parents never taught us.
I Absolutely LOVE My Family
Now, I don’t want to give you the wrong impression. I love spending time with family, and there’s many people in my family that I would enjoy spending more time with than I do now.
I also know my parents did the very best they could with what they had and what they knew.
When it boils down to it, though, things were a bit dysfunctional growing up.
I first started drinking hard liquor when I was eight years old. Eight! My family was low income and always struggling to get by. I was sickly skinny and spent most of my nights playing video games or in front of the computer screen. My parents got divorced when I was a teenager. I didn’t really know how to make friends, and at times I was very lonely and depressed. I could go on.
Suffice to say, I had a bit of a rough start.
Fast Forward to Today
I have a successful career in which I thrive. I’m debt free, have money I’m investing, and I get the pleasure giving to charity on a regular basis.
I’ve learned how to have deep and meaningful relationships, and I have purpose in my life.
I’ve learned how to eat healthy and take care of my body, so that I have energy, I can think clearly throughout the day, and I’m fit for the next adventure.
I’ve learned how to learn, and I’m always developing into a more well-rounded individual.
I’ve taken control of my life and I’m all the better for it. I’ve learned how to navigate the important areas so that I can achieve the things I want.
I’m Just a Regular Guy
Before we go too far, I need to tell you that I didn’t just come up with things on my own or stumble upon a magical lamp. I’m not that special.
While some things were taught through the School of Hard Knocks, I’ve been blessed through having some incredible mentors in my late-teen and young adult life. They encouraged me to do some things that I was scared to do, and to push myself to become the person I am today. And I’ve also worked really hard to get here.
I’m not saying I have all the answers, or that I don’t still fail at things today.
However, I learn from my failures, which allows me to succeed further the next time.
When I look back year after year, I’m a much better person than I was before. That is how I strive to live my life, and it has made all the difference.
What I want to do is teach you the things that I’ve learned, so you can start taking control of your life as well.
Take Control of These Five Areas
There’s five areas of your life that you need to learn to take control of and navigate through. These areas are:
- Money – Manage what you earn, spend, and save
- Love – Experience meaningful relationships
- Health – Have energy and relieve stress
- Purpose – Discover what your life is about
- Mind – Increase your skills and knowledge
So, why talk about all five? Why not focus on giving information on a single topic like so many other websites?
The reason all five areas are SO important, is because they directly affect one another.
If you want to learn to take control of your life, mastering just a single area is going to leave a lot to be desired in your life overall. Shining in one area is great, but that could mean the other four areas are out of balance.
If you are struggling in one area, you are going to experience a negative impact in the other areas as well. If you excel in an area, that can have a positive effect overall.
For example, if a person is under the weight of debt, it can cause conflict in their relationships, put unnecessary stress on their health, prevent them from feeling like they can achieve their purpose and passions, and prevent them from taking advantage of opportunities to increase their skills.
So Why the Name Suck a Little Less?
None of us are perfect, and we can all gain from some personal growth in our lives.
Often times we hear that a positive attitude is all we need. While that can certainly help, achieving our goals is more about working hard and working smart. Those results take time.
It’s about the little steps that bring us closer to what we want.
Some of us are good at life, and others of us can really suck at it. No matter where we are on the spectrum, everyone could gain from sucking a little less than we do now. That is, to be better next month than we are today.
My goal with this site is that you learn to excel in all five areas.
Effective change takes time, but given the right set of tools and understanding, you can learn that YOU are in control to put yourself at a desired place in life.
Sucking at things is natural and normal, but you will continue to suck at them until you gain know-how and experience to be better.
The know-how: that’s where we come in.
The experience: well, that’s up to you.
